Mw 7.9 Azores-Cape St. Vincent Ridge
updated 31 March 2023

On 26 May 1975 a major earthquake occurred at the Azores-Cape St. Vincent Ridge at a depth of 33 km. The seismic event occurred at 09:11:51 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.9.

Two planetary conjunctions converged on 24 May, followed by critical lunar geometry on 25 May, including full Moon. The earthquake occurred less than 24 hours before a Venus-Sun-Jupiter conjunction.
