Mw 9.0 Off East Coast of Kamchatka

On 4 November 1952 a mega-thrust earthquake occurred off the east coast of Kamchatka at a depth of 22 km. The seismic event occurred at 16:58:30 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 9.0.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is critical lunar geometry on 31 October 1952.

After the planetary conjunction Mercury-Sun-Uranus on 29 October 1952, planetary right angles occurred with Mercury involving Saturn and Neptune on 30-31 October, followed by lunar conjunctions, also with Saturn and Neptune, converging with opposing lunar right angles with Mars and Uranus due to Earth's close proximity to the Mars-Uranus line (the Mars-Earth-Uranus conjunction occurred on 6 November). At this point, strong earthquakes occurred near Japan and in China. On 2 November, two days before the mega-thrust earthquake, lunar conjunctions occurred with the Sun (Full Moon) and with Jupiter.
