On 1 February 1938 a mega-thrust earthquake occurred in the Banda Sea at a depth of 25 km. The seismic event occurred at 19:04:22 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 8.5.
The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of four planetary conjunctions from 29 July to 1 August 1938 coinciding with a high lunar peak on 31 July.
From 27 July to 2 August 1938 six planetary conjunctions occurred — three of which with Earth — with a convergence of three planetary conjunctions on 31 July and 1 August. In particular the Earth-Mars-Saturn conjunction is critical. These three planetary conjunctions coincided with a high lunar peak on 31 July, primarily due to lunar conjunctions with Jupiter and the Sun (New Moon). Critical lunar right and semi-right angles occurred on 28 July and 1 August respectively.
