Mw 9.0 Portugal

updated 15 March 2024

report

On 1 November 1755 a mega-thrust earthquake occurred at Portugal. The seismic event occurred at 09:40:00 local time and had an estimated magnitude 9.0.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of critical planetary geometry on 30-31 October 1755.

On 26 October a planetary conjunction occurred with Mercury, Venus and Jupiter. On 28 October a convergence of two planetary conjunctions occurred also involving Mercury and Venus. Crucial in triggering the large seismic event was the planetary right angle of Venus with Earth and Neptune on 30 October. Three more planetary right angles occurred on 31 October and 1 November, involving Mercury and Venus. In addition a planetary conjunction occurred on 31 October with Mercury, the Sun and Neptune. The counterpart of Venus' right angle with Earth and Neptune, i.e. Earth's right angle with Venus and Neptune occurred early on 2 November.
