Mw 7.6 Shanxi, China

updated 16 December 2022

report

On 25 September 1303 a major earthquake occurred in Shanxi, China. The seismic event had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.6.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is the planetary conjunction Earth-Mercury-Neptune on 24 September 1303.

Earth was in a near conjunction with Mercury and Neptune for several days and the conjunction was at 0°32'10" when the lunar conjunction with Jupiter occurred on 23 September. In addition, a convergence of four lunar right angles on 21-22 September was followed by two groupings of planetary right angles with Mercury and Venus on 22-23 September and on 25 September. The earthquake occurred about two days before Full Moon.
