On 11 October 1138 a major earthquake occurred at Aleppo. The seismic event occurred in the afternoon and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.1.

The estimated trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of planetary conjunctions coinciding with a high lunar peak on 4 October, followed by four additional planetary conjunctions with Venus from 6 to 10 October with high lunar peaks on 8 and 11 October.

In the days leading up to the earthquake, Venus was a key player with five planetary conjunctions from 4 to 10 October. A major convergence of planetary and lunar geometry occurred on 4 October; two planetary conjunctions Sun-Mercury-Saturn and Sun-Venus-Neptune less than an hour apart converged with a lunar conjunction involving Jupiter, while the Moon made semi-right angles with Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. On 6 October the planetary conjunction Mars-Venus-Uranus was followed by a lunar conjunction with the Sun (New Moon). On 7 October the planetary conjunction Sun-Venus-Uranus was followed by two lunar conjunctions, also involving Venus, and Neptune. Several hours later on 8 October the next lunar conjunction with Uranus occurred, followed by a planetary right angle involving Venus. On 9 and 10 October two more planetary conjunctions involving Venus converged with the critical lunar conjunction Moon-Earth-Mars. Finally, in the morning of 11 October, several lunar semi-right angles occurred involving all four Jovians, which resulted in a high lunar peak. According to historical accounts the earthquake was preceded by a foreshock a day earlier.
